Why water might carry information
The idea is almost forty years old, has a Nobel laureate behind it and a scientific community divided over it. We present it for what it is: an open line of research.

Note
What you will find here
This page gathers the theories, the experiments and the authors we lean on when we explain how the technology works. This is third-party research, independent of O.V.E.P. The evidence about our own products is kept separate, in the dossier.
The field is contested: the memory of water has no consensus in academia, and some of the works cited have been criticised or have not been independently replicated.

Three questions, three threads
Everything that follows answers three questions.
01
Thread 1
The memory of water
Can water keep an imprint of what it has touched? The term is journalistic and wrong; even its supporters reject it. The correct word would be imprinting.
02
Thread 2
Coherence domains
Why would millions of molecules oscillate in unison? The answer proposed: resonance within a background electromagnetic field, which selects which molecules meet.
03
Thread 3
Informational transfer
Can biological information travel without the molecule? If it can, a signal can be recorded, sent and reproduced. Without this link, nothing else stands.

The experiment that started it all
He diluted an antigen, with succussion, until the preparation was chemically only H₂O. Brought into contact with basophil cells in culture, the white blood cells involved in allergic reaction, these were activated and released histamine, as in a real allergic reaction. Publication caused a considerable scandal, and the author was attacked publicly. The phrase "the memory of water" was invented by the press.

Coherence domains
The problem to solve: in an industrial reactor molecules react in every way possible, yet in the chemistry of living things molecule A interacts selectively with B and not with C. What is the physical law that produces the selectivity? The answer proposed is resonance. Within a shared electromagnetic field, two molecules with equal frequencies attract each other across a long distance. With different frequencies, they ignore each other. As on the telephone: you dial the right number and reach London, without disturbing anyone in Paris or Turin. The method is already industrial: a laser beam tuned to the frequency of a molecular species extracts it from a mixture. That is how uranium 235 is separated, instead of using centrifuges.

The fourth phase of water
He described a state between solid and liquid, close to a gel, called the exclusion zone, EZ: so dense that it excludes any solute. Microscopic layers with hexagonal geometry, offset from one another, 100 to 200 microns thick. They form spontaneously at the interface between a liquid and a solid or the air: on the walls of a glass left standing for a few hours, at the surface of water and, on the scale of meters, in sea water. Between the ordered and the disordered zone a potential difference appears, in certain set-ups enough to light a small bulb. The studies were taken up in Italy by Prof. Vittorio Elia, a chemist at the Università Federico II in Naples.

The signal sent 1000 kilometers
Sequences of bacterial and viral DNA, suspended in water and progressively diluted, are said to emit low-frequency electromagnetic waves, detectable with a coil, but only below a certain dilution threshold. Above that threshold, the fields of neighbouring molecules interfere negatively and cancel out. The signal was sent electronically from Paris to Benevento, precisely to rule out contamination: the internet does not carry molecules. At the destination, applied to a test tube with pure water and a PCR kit, it is reported to have produced, after a few hours, exactly the same DNA sequences.
